Do You Feel Me?
Something unthinkable has happened. Marvel, the comic universe that really needs no introduction, has been bought by Disney. As dumbfounding as this development is, I can understand why Marvel would do such a thing. Iron-man and The Hulk movies were almost more than Marvel could financially handle so an opportunity to continually produce movies and other media with the financial backing of a corporate giant like Disney is appealing. Marvel is similarly modeled after Disney in the sense that they are merchandise heavy: video games, action figures, halloween costumes, etc. Disney’s distribution connections and platforms must have also been a “too good to be true moment” for Stan Lee and Marvel.
But seriously. WTH? If the integrity of the Marvel storylines are maintained and not censored and made more kid-friendly, then I’m down. But there’s an unshakable feeling that blood, difficult grey moral decisions and the true soul of Marvel will be slowly snuffed out and replaced with a sugar-coated Mickey Mouse center.
Movies, toys, and other media will probably get better, but at what cost?
Green Goblin: [to Spiderman]You and I are not so different.
Spider-Man:I’m not like you. You’re a murderer.
Green Goblin:Well… to each his own.
